**GENUINE** DOW CORNING® 4 (DC4) ELECTRICAL INSULATING COMPOUND. A moderate consistency grease-like silicone material which provides a moisture proof seal for ignition and electrical systems. It is practically nonvolatile, odorless, moisture resistant, electrically insulating, excellent rubber lubrication, excellent release and sealing properties, resistant to oxidation, essentially nontoxic and non-melting and shows little tendency to dry out in service.

HISTORY:
Before Dow Corning was formed in 1943 as a joint venture between Corning Glass and Dow Chemical to manufacture silicone products, high-altitude flight seemed impossible. Planes could only maintain high altitudes for a few minutes because of moisture in the engines and the formation of corona discharge from aircraft electrical systems causing ignition loss at high altitudes. Dr. Shailer Bass developed Dow Corning’s first product, Dow Corning #4 Compound, a simple silicone grease which became the solution that ushered in a new age of aviation.

SOLUBILITY:
DOW CORNING 4 Compound is insoluble in water, methanol, ethanol or mineral oil and is soluble in mineral spirit and methyl ethyl ketone.
CHEMICAL RESISTANCE:
DOW CORNING 4 Compound is not greatly affected by mineral oils, vegetable oils or air. It is generally resistant to dilute acids and alkalines, and to most aqueous solutions.
